What is a Satoshi?

A satoshi is the smallest unit of Bitcoin, named after Bitcoin's pseudonymous creator, Satoshi Nakamoto. One satoshi is equal to 0.00000001 Bitcoin (100 millionth of a Bitcoin). Just as a dollar is divided into 100 cents, a Bitcoin is divided into 100 million satoshis. This allows for micro-transactions and provides a way to express very small amounts of Bitcoin.

Satoshi vs Bitcoin

The main difference between a satoshi and a Bitcoin is scale. While a Bitcoin is the standard unit of the cryptocurrency, a satoshi allows for precise and minute transactions. Think of Bitcoin as the dollar and satoshi as the cent, but on a much more divisible scale.
